Friday Fuel! Turn Down the Negativity

Happy Friday!

Life is what you make it – I really believe that. Through the good times and bad times our attitude towards life and what comes at us truly does influence our experiences and journey. There is a lot of noise in the world these days and most of it is negative. It seems to be getting louder and louder every day, which makes it harder to for people to see the good in the world and stay positive.

It’s easy to join in on the complaining, the anger, the ranting and fear. Being positive can be hard, there’s no doubt about it – the negative voices out number the positive ones but that doesn’t mean you should join them.  Lets choose to make positivity louder and bring good vibes to the universe; fight the good fight and find the positive in every situation.

But, how???

How do we keep a positive mindset with all this negative hawks circling around us ready to attack? How do we turn down the volume of negativity and tune it out? Here’s a few things I do to remind myself to stay in the positive zone and not join in with the Negative Nancy’s of the world:

  1. Realize that nothing is permanent. This applies to the good times and the bad, but I find it incredibly reassuring when going through tough times. Time heals and nothing will last forever so don’t let an event, person, etc., suck any of the good vibes from your life. Not for a second. A good question to ask yourself; “will this matter 1 year from now? 3 years? 5 years? 20 years?”
  2. Embrace the mentality that “It could always be worse”. When shit hits the fan and I’m bombared with issues that could take me down a negative path I try to think of something that could make the situation WORSE. Hear me out…I take the bad situation and in my mind I think of what could be worse. This reaction always helps me put things in perspective and realize I should be grateful that things are not even worse.
  3. Stop complaining. Complaining breeds negativity and is highly contagious. Cut the complaints and and cut the people out of your life who are constantly complaining. It doesn’t help the situation; it doesn’t change the situation and it doesn’t solve anything. Just don’t.
  4. Get into a positive frame of mind every day. A positive mindset is skill and something that we need to practice day-in and day-out so it becomes our instinctive reaction to things. Develop a routine or go-to activity that helps you get your attitude right for the day and puts you into a positive mindset. For me; my morning learning routine kick starts my positive mindset for the day. Learning new things through books, Podcasts or videos always inspires me and puts my mind in a positive place.

Life is full of choices and one of the most important choices of all is our attitude. You can focus on the negative and have a shitty attitude or you can choose to be positive and focus on all that is good in your life.

“A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you.”
